Year 4 Explore the Digestive Sytem

Who said Science was boring?

Year 4 have had a very interesting afternoon learning all about the digestive system. They carried out an experiment to mimic human digestion!

The children mixed biscuits, bananas, water and orange juice into a plastic bag (the stomach) to show how all food can be broken down.

They then transferred the mixture into a pair of tights ( the small intestine ) to show the absorption of the nutrients into the body.

The children then cut a hole in the tights to show how food passes our bodies.

Did you know it can take up to 72 hours for food to pass through our digestive system.
