Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Brownmead, we have two EYFS Reception classes; Bumblebees class and Dragonflies class.  We welcome children into our classes from a range of childcare providers within the area providing a carefully planned transition into our provision.

We encourage children to engage in our progressive curriculum through a balance of adult led and child initiated investigative learning.  Our morning sessions provide opportunities for more structured provision and our afternoons have a free-flow philosophy throughout the setting. The children have access to indoor and outdoor learning opportunities throughout the day. Our staff nurture the Characteristics of Effective Learning within the children, providing support and challenge where neccessary to enable children to make the next steps in their learning. The children engage in a thematic curriculum centred around their interests, learning and development.  The Early Years provides a foundation of knowledge and skills that the children build on, as they transition into Key Stage One. 

Reception will have PE on a Thursday, please ensure all children are wearing the correct PE uniform.

At Brownmead, we love to read. To enable pupils to learn to read successfully we use a systematic synthetic phonics scheme. We are a Read, Write, Inc Phonics school.

Why read to your child?

At Brownmead we are part of a Maths Hub. Through this we have been able to access and utilise the NCETM 'mastering number' approach.
